It’s not much of a deal if an expensive movie turns out to be a blockbuster. It’s expected to be so since so much has been spent on the production.
But on what factors does a movie’s success depend upon? The Cast? Direction? Story? Script writing? Well it isn’t that easy to point out.Following are some of the movies that will make you realize that money spent is surely not one of them.



1. Paranormal Activity
Paranormal Activity is the cheapest, most successful movie made. Total investment of the movie was 15,000 dollars and seven days of shooting with a handheld camera and director Oren Peli’s own house as the set.

2. Star Wars
Directed and written by George Lucas, Star Wars needs no line of introduction. With a mere $11 million, the film easily drew $775 million and billions of fans.

3. Slumdog Millionaire
Set in the slums of India, Slumdog Millionaire revolves around a poor boy who participates in the popular show “Who wants to be a millionaire?”. A budget of $15 million and this film was able to earn $377 million along with a list of awards.

4. Open Water
It is the story of a couple that gets left behind while gone scuba diving on great barrier reef. With the film cost of half a million dollars, Open Water proved to be one of the best psychological thrillers and went on to make over $50 million.

5. Little Miss Sunshine
Released in 2006, Little Miss sunshine has been appreciated all throughout the world and won several accolades. With an investment of $8 million, the film managed to make a $100 million.

6. Saw
Saw has drawn some strikingly contrasting reviews ranging from “Gross and unbearable” to “Awesome, seen all parts!”. Made with 1.2million, Saw made over a hundred million dollars! The seven films collectively grossed over $873 million at the box office worldwide.

7. Rocky
Starring Sylvester Stallone, Rocky was directed in just over a million, narrating the from-nothing-to-everything story of Rocky Balboa. The film was a huge success earning $225million worldwide.

8. The Conjuring
Credited to be one of the best horrors, the Conjuring was completed with a budget of 20 million dollars. The movie made over 300 million dollars around the globe. Annabelle was released as a sequel expecting the same profit, but the audience seemed to have higher expectations than the director!

9. Juno
Juno is the story of a teenage girl faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Movie highlights are Ellen Page and a total cost of production $7millon that gave out a profit of $231 million.

10. Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th proved to be a huge hit in ’80s. The story revolves around a series of murders regarding a scene with a lake with an unpleasant history. With half a million as budget, Friday the 13th made sixty times its cost of production!
