Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, released in 2011 is the most expensive movie till date with a budget of 378.5 million dollars. It made $1.046 billion. It’s not much of a deal if an expensive movie turns out to be a blockbuster. It’s expected to be so since so much has been spent on the production.

Set in the slums of India, Slumdog Millionaire revolves around a poor boy who participates in the popular show “Who wants to be a millionaire?”. A budget of $15 million and this film was able to earn $377 million along with a list of awards.
4. Open Water
It is the story of a couple that gets left behind while gone scuba diving on great barrier reef. With the film cost of half a million dollars, Open Water proved to be one of the best psychological thrillers and went on to make over $50 million.
5. Little Miss Sunshine
Released in 2006, Little Miss sunshine has been appreciated all throughout the world and won several accolades. With an investment of $8 million, the film managed to make a $100 million.

Friday the 13th proved to be a huge hit in ’80s. The story revolves around a series of murders regarding a scene with a lake with an unpleasant history. With half a million as budget, Friday the 13th made sixty times its cost of production!
