- Fabric Upholstery
Fabric upholstery is largely preferred because of variety of choices in terms of styles and price options. It’s however a magnet for dirt and grime. You can spray soil and stain repellents, cover it with antimacassars, throws or loose covers to at least minimize the dirt and damage.Yes, we all are lazy when it comes to vacuuming. Every now and then, rearrange and swap your furniture around so as to distribute the wear.
Check the care label for your sofa before starting to clean. If it has one, then follow the instructions carefully. But if there is none, you need to do some quick research as to how to clean it. For delicate fabrics, you may need to dry-clean it. You might need help with this because if you apply moisture to these fabrics, it might shrink or bleed. Proceed with caution.Renting a steam cleaner: It’s better to rent it once or twice a year rather than purchasing it. Make sure you rent the model with wheels. It’s a nifty addition which will certainly go a long way.
- Leather upholstery
Good news here is they are easier to maintain than fabric. Regularly vacuum your leather sofa to remove dirt, hair, crumbs and whatever is left there by humans and pets.
Run a damp cloth over the leather. Make sure not to use overly damp rags so as not to damage the leather. Let it dry at once. You can also run a duster over it to get rid of hair or dust.
Drops, spills and accident, carpets face it all.
- Blot instead of scrub
Don’t start the cleaning right away, try to sponge as much liquid as possible, to reduce the size and spread of the stain. After that, always use a dabbing motion instead of rigorously scrubbing.
- Use as little chemicals as possible
For reducing both the drying time and the risk of staining your carpet For most stains, it’s ideal to use club soda or dish soap as a cleaning product.
You don’t want a mold to grow in your carpet.. You can also use a fan or hair dryer to gently speed the process.
